ARCHITECTURE
Perched on a hilly outcrop, Casa Roca is a cozy cabin in Coarsegold California just 30 miles from Yosemite National Park. Surrounded by stunning rock formations, this vacation rental by architects PPAA provides panoramic views for the perfect mountain getaway. The minimalist design frames the nature around it, in architect Pablo Pérez Palacios’ words: “Architecture shouldn’t be the protagonist. Let the site be the show”. He was true to his word.
The common areas were designed for seamless movement. Sit in the living room while others enjoy the firepit outside, open the sliding doors and join in. The home’s signature feature is the east-west cutout in the center of its architectural plan. This creates a sense of openness, of inviting nature in. It’s all about the setting, the interior is modest with open living and dining areas, the large cutout running through it and the bedrooms at the opposite end of the house. The home is expressed in a few honest materials: polished concrete floors, plywood interior walls and a yakisugi exterior.
PEOPLE
This house was designed to enjoy its serene landscape. Make the most of the outdoors with a smokeless firepit ideal for late-night merriment and storytelling, a high-end Taeger BBQ for grilling until you’re content and 17 acres attached to the property to explore.
Trek the property’s private trails, get out further and take in Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
The property sleeps eight comfortably ideal for two or more families, or one extended family.

Located just a short drive from Coarsegold’s local amenities and shops, there are plenty of local destinations to explore.
Existing boulders from the site have been moved and used minimalist landscaping, they also act to frame the cabin against the natural features of the surrounding landscape. Enjoy stunning sunsets over the mountains and Sierra’s rolling foothills.
