ARCHITECTURE

Rock ‘n’ House is an architectural wonder constructed around an awe-inspiring boulder on a bluestone ridge. Architects who boast that their property is seamlessly connected to nature will be left shamefaced by this remarkable property featured in Architectural Digest.

Situated on a 14-acre estate down a secluded private road, this architectural wonder with panoramic views, circular design and wall-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light and make the most of the panoramic views of Saugerties, just two hours from New York City.

Designed to mimic the shape of Polaris, the course of the sun, the architect designed this space as a fully sustainable climate-positive house that will generate more energy than it uses in its lifetime. Extending the theme of the cosmos, remarkably the staircase’s handrail doubles up as an observatory of the North Star.

Natural materials are used throughout from wood to glass and cement, adding to the feeling of a seamless connection to nature.

Inside, the living space is open plan, featuring a sunken lounge with dining for 10 overlooking mountain peaks and radiant heating provides comfort whatever the weather.

Venture outside to soak in stunning views cozied up by the firepit, or around the porch table.

PEOPLE

This luxurious vacation rental has two bedrooms on each level. On the main living level, the two bedrooms share connected bathrooms. The second-floor master bedroom provides generous closet space and an en-suite bathroom. Also, on this floor, two work stations for remote work make this the ideal space for a working holiday, or an urgent call when business doesn’t stop.

A separate suite on the far side of the house offers privacy for families, couples and seniors with a bedroom featuring a king bed on the second floor and a kitchenette on the ground floor.

Outdoors is made for entertaining. Enjoy the majestic views of the mountains from besides the firepit, or dine under the stars at the bistro table.

PLACE

The neighborhood is as alluring as this architectural marvel itself. Rock ‘n’ house is nestled between the artsy Woodstock (eclectic art galleries, and craft shops) and the chocolate box town of Saugerties full of boutique shops and cafes.

Based just two hours from New York City by car, the property comes equipped with a Tesla charging point.

There’s plenty to attract guests in the area beside the Big Apple, including ski resorts: Hunter, Belleayre, Windham Mountains all within a 45-minute drive.
