ARCHITECTURE
Saddle Peak is a secluded home surrounded by wild open space and the Santa Monica mountains. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this architectural home is located in an untouched part of Southern California which very few people have had the fortune to experience.
The architecture expores the concepts heavy vs light, transparent vs opaque and rooted vs floating which when taken as one combine to create a sense of balance and intimacy with the surrounding landscape.
Sitting on top of an escarpment (long steep slope) the geography of the environment offered the architect plenty of opportunity join the property with the landscape. Swimming in the infintiy pool is one of the things that makes this property special. Guests can also be-at-one with the wild landscape while enjoying views from the floating living room which hovers above the rugged expanse.
Giant sliding doors also blur the line between inside and out. Opening onto three separate decks, views on one side take in the ocean and on the other the massive rock outcropping framed above the infinity pool.
PEOPLE
Sleeping eight, there’s room for two families at Saddle Peak House and the living room features a convertible sofa which allows the studio to function as an autonomous house.
Guests enjoy stunning sunsets from one of the property’s three decks. Families drift in the infinty pool and admire the awesome nature.
For hosting, the kitchen and cooking equipment is a gourmet chef’s dream.
The bedrooms are stocked with luxurious linens, Aesop products can be found in the bathrooms for the ultimate refreshement and the host’s hospitality is unmatched.
PLACE
Perfectly secluded, but well-appointed in the heart of boho Los Angeles, Saddle Peak House is just a short drive from the inconic Santa Monica Pier and the seaside at Venice Beach. Getty Villa is also easily in reach.
Being so off-grid cell service can be spotty and internet service interruptions can occur from time to time due to the unique location and topography of the area. There is however, a workstation for when work can’t wait.
Guests are advised to take care when enjoying the breathtaking natural beauty of the wildnreness due to rare landslide hazards. It’s also important to be aware of the sensitivity of the area and potential seasonal variations.
